Happy almost New Year friends! Today I am teaming up with fellow fancy Navajo YouTuber, Caitlin. If you remember from last year she shared her 2019 spring/summer trends. Now that it is finally starting to feel like winter here in Phoenix, AZ. I thought we could use some fancy Navajo styling advice. Caitlin, will be sharing her 3 Winter trends: Teddy Jackets, Head to Toe Plaid, and Leather. That way we can be fancy in the New Year together. Check out how we styled these 3 trends for Winter with our own unique styles. Also make sure to check out her YouTube Channel for the video version of this blog post here.

Before we begin. Let’s catch up with Caitlin…

Hello! It’s me again, Caitlin. If you don’t remember, I teamed up with Alana for the first time back in May to bring you my top three trends for Spring/Summer 2019. I am so happy to be back again! Today, I will be sharing with you my top 3 Winter trends that I think are perfect to bring with you into the New Year.

Before we get started, let me reintroduce myself. I am a Navajo fashion blogger & YouTuber, originally from Page, Arizona. I was fortunate enough to grow up surrounded by the beautiful Diné (Navajo) culture which is what inspires my sense of fashion today. After getting my degree from Arizona State University, I was able to work for Phoenix Fashion Week and experience the fashion industry right here in Arizona. This is when I decided to focus on starting and building my own blog and YouTube channel, Nizhóníful Me, where I post fashion related content, from thrift hauls to styling different pieces of clothing and even some DIY projects.

Now that you know a little more about me, let’s get into my top three Winter trends!

Caitlin’s Top 3 Spring Trends 2019/2020

1. Teddy Jackets

Throw on a teddy jacket to instantly up the coziness factor of your outfit on a cold winter day. This trend is so cute and easily makes any outfit fancier. Also, the texture kind of reminds me of sheep wool which is so fun! This trend is very versatile as it can be worn casually with a basic tee and jeans or more dressed up with your favorite holiday dress. If you are daring enough, experiment with different colored teddy jackets for a playful look.

Caitlin’s Outfit: Here, I am wearing a maroon velvet dress, that I was lucky enough to find at the thrift store, strappy embellished kitten heels, and a teddy jacket to keep me nice and warm. For accessories, I thought the pearl hair clips and earrings were a perfect statement piece to pull the outfit together.

Alana’s Outfit: The teddy trend also reminds me of fluffy sheep and is perfect for the wintertime. I have been into more casual looks this winter and paired my teddy jacket with some high waisted light wash jeans, silver block heels, and a Fancy Navajo Yá’át’ééh Gorgeous t-shirt. I have a few shirts left if you want to purchase here.

2. Head to Toe Plaid

Plaid has always been a staple for me during the colder months, and I thought I had seen it all until I discovered head to toe matching plaid outfits. Up your plaid game by pairing matching plaid separates with each other or wearing an all plaid dress. My favorite take on this trend includes the oversized blazer and trouser set but there are many ways to style this trend. The key is to make sure the plaid pattern is the same throughout, or very similar, if you are mixing and matching separates. Doing so makes the outfit much more sophisticated.

Caitlin’s Outfit: Here, I am wearing a grey plaid blazer and trousers that I thrifted on separate occasions and was lucky enough that they were very similar in pattern and color. To give the outfit more shape and break up the plaid a bit, I belted the blazer with a coral concho belt. I accessorized with matching coral earrings and went with a basic black boot for shoes.

Alana’s Outfit: I am not much of a plaid person, so Caitlin really challenged me with this look. To give this outfit a girly flair I chose a light gray, pink, and blue plaid print dress by Lauren Conrad here. I love that it is not the typical plaid and I paired it with a navy blue blazer and light gray boots. To add some Fancy Navajo flair I accessorized with a leather beaded bolo tie, tassel earrings, and the cutest Navajo grandma pin.

3. Leather

Leather is something that I’ve always wanted to try but never really had the chance to, until now. I’m so glad that I did because it adds another level of interest to an outfit due to the interesting texture. This trend can be incorporated into your wardrobe in many different ways, such as a leather moto jacket, a leather skirt, leather pants, and the list goes on. Because leather pieces are usually black, it is very easy to style it with clothes you already own, and it gives your look some edginess.

Caitlin’s Outfit: Here, I am wearing a white flowy top with black leather pants. This top features a bow at the neck and I thought a bolo tie would be a nice touch as a way to show how it can be worn in a feminine way. I went for matching turquoise earrings and black heels to complete my look.

Alana’s Outfit: This trend was my most favorite! There is something about leather that instantly makes you feel edgy. I thrifted this leather skirt, paired it with a cozy mauve sweater, and finished the outfit with some black ankle boots. The contrasting fabrics gave this such a fancy look! You can never go wrong with beaded earrings and a turquoise bracelet.
