Fancy Navajo Tips: 3 Spring/Summer Trends

Spring is here and summer is just around the corner. Today I am teaming up with fellow fancy Navajo blogger, Caitlin to provide some fancy Navajo styling advice. Since we both love fashion, I asked Caitlin to share her top 3 Spring/Summer trends: Floral Prints, Earthy Tones, and Woven Bags. Together we styled these 3 trends for Spring/Summer with our own unique styles.

As a lover of fashion, I have always admired Caitlin’s sense of style. Caitlin and I first met at my first ever Phoenix Fashion Week show two years ago. You can read all about it here. I was checking in and noticed a fellow Native and to my surprise she knew who I was!! I thought it was incredible to see a Native working in the Phoenix fashion community. Although we continued to see each other at Phoenix Fashion Week events, we never sat down to talk.

So I reached out to Caitlin and asked if she would like to do a guest feature on TheFancyNavajo.com. I am so happy she said yes! We had so much fun and we met at a new Chandler restaurant, Civic Market and we discussed our passions for blogging and of course FASHION. We also came ready to style these trends. I absolutely love the trends she picked and how this collaboration turned out!

Here is a little bit about Caitlin ….

Hello! My name is Caitlin, a Navajo woman who loves thrifting, styling unique outfits and all things fashion! Originally from Page, Arizona, I grew up surrounded by the beautiful Navajo culture which influences my sense of style today.

While getting my bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University in Marketing & Entrepreneurship, I started volunteering for Phoenix Fashion Week and ended up working two years for them, immersing myself in the fashion scene here in Phoenix, Arizona. I got the chance to work closely with emerging designers and models, assist in event planning, manage the Phoenix Fashion Week social media channels and much more!

More recently, I launched my fashion blog www.NizhonifulMe.com where I share fashion related content inspired by my Navajo roots. Today, I will be sharing with you my top three trends for Spring 2019!

Caitlin’s Top 3 Spring Trends 2019

1. Floral Prints

I know, it is a little bit obvious, but it wouldn’t be Spring without some floral prints! What I love about the floral trend is that it is very accessible. I’m sure you already have some floral pieces in your closet right now. Go for a bold floral print or opt for a smaller floral print, they each have a place in my fashion book!

Caitlin’s Outfit: Here I am wearing a red and pink floral top with a matching white skirt and a Navajo sash belt. For an extra pop of color, I am wearing my favorite turquoise bracelets.

Alana’s Outfit: I am wearing a green floral dress I thrifted and it looks like it was actually handmade! I love how it has a Hawaiian feel and it’s not the traditional floral print or color people might gravitate to.

2. Earthy Tones

One thing that I love about this trend is that neutral toned pieces will never go out of style and it matches with just about anything. This means you will get more use out of that one item! Don’t be afraid to layer neutral toned pieces on top of one another and it’s okay if the shades are different colors. I think that it makes an outfit more interesting.

Caitlin’s Outfit:  Here I am wearing high waisted tan trousers with a belt to define my waist. To top it off, I have a blazer to complete this chic look.

Alana’s Outfit: I love polka dots and this white and brown polka dot dress was right up my alley. I added a cardigan to complete the look.

3. Woven Bags

I immediately think of a picnic on a nice spring day among the flower fields when I see woven bags. Too much? Lol but seriously, these bags are super cute and make an outfit instantly spring ready! I recommend pairing it with a nice summer dress, but honestly, it will look great with anything.

Caitilin’s Bag: The bag I have here is from Goodwill that I purchased for $2 and DIYed to my liking. Remember, you don’t have to break the bank to own these trendy pieces!

Alana’s Bag: I also thrifted my bag as well for under $5. It has two different sides, one more neutral and the other with colorful straw. I think you could get two different looks with this one purse.

We hope these inspire you to try out some of these trends. If you do, please tag us @TheFancyNavajo and @HelloCaite. Which trend would you wear?
