Breakfast is my most favorite meal of the day. On most days I have a light breakfast, but on the weekends I like to indulge a little bit more. Now that the weather is cooling down, I often crave homemade biscuits and gravy. Okay, let’s be real. I crave it all year round! Even when it gets well above 100 degrees! Ha! Because who doesn’t love freshly homemade biscuits straight out of the oven topped with a creamy green chile gravy??
I love making this Sunday mornings for my husband and I, and he absolutely loves it. It’s also very simple to make and doesn’t require a lot of dishes, which is always a plus on a Sunday morning. This is a very basic gravy recipe that consists mostly of flour, spices, and water. I like it because I don’t have to think about buying extra ingredients at the grocery store. But since it is such a simple recipe I can easily switch things up.
For instance, if I have heavy cream or milk that I need to use up. I substitute it for water. Maybe I don’t have green chile on hand, then I can simply just leave it out. Sometimes if I am making bacon, I will add a little bit of the bacon grease to my gravy to add some flavor. You can also switch up the spices. You can basically make it your own!
I will only be sharing the gravy recipe below. If you would like to learn how to make my biscuits. The recipe can be found here Fancy Navajo Magic Bread: Tortilla, Fry Bread, Biscuit Dough Recipe.
