Welcome to Fancy Navajo Foodie Favorites! Today I am introducing a new series to my blog, where I highlight some of my favorite restaurants, cafes, and coffee shops. I will mainly be focusing on places in Arizona, New Mexico, and places I have tried on my travels. I won’t be highlighting all of the places I visit, on my blog. So, if you don’t want to miss out, make sure to follow me on Instagram or Facebook for mini posts. I have also created the hashtag #TheFancyNavajoFoodie, for places I have previously tried. Feel free to use this hashtag as well, so we can build a community of Fancy Navajo Foodies.
Before we dive into this food series, here is a little bit of background about my relationship with food. First of all, I love food and I enjoy trying new places to eat. It could be the fanciest restaurant in the world, or a street vendor in a small town. If it looks and smells good, I want to try it! Growing up, my mom had two rules when we traveled to a new place. ONE we couldn’t eat a fast food chain restaurant. And TWO we had to eat somewhere we had never been before. As a result, I was exposed to different foods and encouraged to expand my pallet. I am so happy my mom introduced me to so many different foods growing up. As an adult, I have continued this tradition.
Now when I come across a new restaurant on Yelp or Instagram, I obsess over it. I have to try it! When I travel, I pick places where they have the BEST food and plan my whole trip around places to eat. I also love introducing friends and family to new foods. This has been good and bad (hahaha), on one or more occasions I have turned friends and family into food snobs. I introduced my hubby and best friend to a Vietnamese Boba tea place in Chandler, AZ. They wanted to go there every day! Let’s just say I won’t be drinking Boba tea for a while! Hahaha!
My love for food is also how I started Instagram. Back in the day circa 2014, I was obsessed with food trucks. To be more specific, a pink food truck, My Waffle Crush. If you don’t know this about me now, I LOVE the color pink. So of course, I was immediately drawn to this food truck. I remember the first time I saw the My Waffle Crush food truck. As soon as I got home, I quickly googled the name, and liege waffle food truck popped up. But what was a food truck? Short version, mobile food, count me in!  And liege waffle what?? A Belgium waffle made from yeast dough and pearl sugars. Combined, you get a chewy and caramelized waffle! You can eat liege waffles alone, or add toppings to your hearts content. YUM!  I needed to try this! So, I followed them on Instagram and found their schedule and I couldn’t wait to get off work to try this place the next day!
I excitedly placed my ordered and waited for my Berry Waffle. Which is a liege waffle topped with Biscoff spread, homemade whipped cream, with freshly cut strawberries. If your mouth didn’t water after reading that, we might have to reconsider our friendship. It was delicious! Not only had I tried my first liege waffle, it was also my first time trying Biscoff spread. If you have ever flown on an airplane, you are probably familiar with a Biscoff cookie. Well, they turn this cookie into a Biscoff cookie spread. It puts Nutella to shame. They do offer Nutella as a spread, but if you have never had Biscoff, you should give it a try.
The strawberries were sweet and not tart. The homemade whipped cream, was like nothing I have ever had before. There were so many firsts with this food encounter. I think it was at this point in my life, I turned into a full-blown food snob. Today, I still refuse to eat Cool Whip or ready made whipped cream. I’m all about that homemade whipped cream, which is probably one of the easiest things to make and I will not settle for anything less.
Once I was hooked, I had a waffle a week habit! YES, I know, that’s a lot of sugar, fat, and calories, but those are the sacrifices you make as a foodie. The hubby and I would also split a waffle sometimes (completely justified now, right ;-)). This obsession quickly became my muse. I started snapping pictures with my IPhone and posting them on my Instagram. I tagged the business and used my first ever hash tag!!!! Say what?? Yeah, I was taking huge leaps in social media history! My first IG post was actually a short video I made with, My Waffle Crush. If you scroll to my first IG post, you can watch it! Leave a comment if you do! Hahaha!
This was my creative outlet. Soon my pictures were being shared by the company! The business owners were so kind. They even sent a thank you card, along with some complimentary waffles vouchers. It was so sweet and completely unexpected, since I was just sharing what I love.
I met a lot of you this way too, which is why I want to start this series.Let me know if you remember any of this! Â I love sharing all of my food finds and some of these places deserve a mention on the blog. Of course my first post had to be about my liege waffle obsession, My Waffle Crush. Go check out their Instagram, Facebook, or website and let me know if you give them a try!
Nowadays, I haven’t eaten a liege waffle in almost half a year, but I plan on making a trip the next time they are in my area. That’s the thing about being a foodie. You are always on the hunt for the next big thing. So follow along to see what I highlight next! Are you a foodie too?? Let me know below.
