Fancy Green Chile Tortilla Pinwheels Recipe

Hi Friends!! It’s my favorite time of year again… HATCH GREEN CHILE season!! This year I partnered up with Fry’s Food Stores to share a fun and easy recipe using Hatch green chiles. Did you know that Hatch chile season begins in July and runs through mid-September? As someone who grew up in New Mexico, I appreciate that Fry’s Food Stores offers fresh New Mexico Hatch Chiles. The best part they even have live Hatch green chile roastings around the valley (11 locations to be exact)!

I love that they bring this tradition to Arizona, and I never have to miss out on freshly roasted Hatch green chiles.

They have actually been doing this for the past 3 years now and I am so thankful and honored to be part of this event. In the past, I’d have to bring Hatch Green Chiles back from New Mexico, but now I don’t have to do that. I can just run to my local Fry’s Food Stores and buy a box and freeze it year round. Because Hatch green chiles are much needed throughout the year. They also carry mild, medium, hot, and extra hot Hatch green chiles!!

Today I am sharing a recipe Fancy Green Chile Tortilla Pinwheels. This is beloved favorite that I grew up eating. It was a common treat to have at potlucks and family gatherings. These Green Chile Tortilla Pinwheels are soooo easy to make too. And you want to know the best part???? You don’t need to turn on your oven or stove to make them!!!! I find that necessary this time of year when its almost toooooo HOT to cook anything. These can be made overnight and kept in the refrigerator, and then be eaten as fun treat!!

Also if you don’t have access to freshly roasted Hatch green chiles you can substitute for canned green chiles as well. I personally like these green chile pinwheels with a medium to hot heat. The cool flavors of the cream cheese and sour cream with the hot green chiles balance each other out. I hope you give this a try and you’ll have to check to see if your Arizona Fry’s Food Stores will be roasting Hatch Green Chiles!

8 oz Cream Cheese Spread, softened

½ cup Fat Free Sour Cream

½ cup roasted Hatch green chile, diced

1 teaspoon garlic powder

  2. On a flat surface or cutting board, lay out one tortilla and add ½ cup of the green chile cream cheese mixture on top and spread evenly across with a spatula. Then tightly roll the tortilla up.
