Who else is ready for spring and spring accessories? I don’t know about you but I love the spring time. From the pretty pastel colors to floral everything. It’s the most colorful time of the year. Hair accessories are big this spring. Hair barrettes, scrunchies, and clips are all trending. Of course, as a Fancy Navajo I had to add my own fancy twist. Today I will be sharing 3 Native Made hair accessories I have been loving.
First of all I don’t like to fuss with my hair much…
When it comes to hair accessories, I have always kept it simple, so I don’t like to fuss with my hair much. My go to style is straight down and sometimes curls. Anyone else like this? I just don’t like spending a lot of time on my hair. However, one of my personal goals this year is to style my hair more often.
Make it Native Fashion…
This goal couldn’t have come at a better time as cute hair accessories are making a HUGE comeback. From barrettes, hair clips, and a blast from the past, SCRUNCHIES!! One way to get me excited about styling my hair was finding native hair accessories and even DIY’ing my own scrunchies. Thanks YouTube! It was so much fun and hopefully this inspires you to add a little fancy Navajo flair to your hair.
- Hair Clips/Pins: Hair clips have always been my go to. I love a nice side swept look, it’s so romantic. It can really change up a simple hairstyle into something fancy. I like taking one side of my hair and pinning on the side for a romantic side swept look. I found these hair clips at a local flea market in Shiprock, NM. I love the shell and turquoise stone details. I have been eyeing these Morenci Turquoise hair pins from Ahlazua.
- Barrettes: For hair barrettes, I love doing a half up do. Just split your hair across the sides and add a fun barrette. If the barrette is small enough, I also like pinning it to one side of my hair. This was a gift from a family member and was purchased at a Trading Post in Cortez, NM.
- Hair Scrunchies: Scrunchies have made a comeback! Not only can you wear them in your hair, it also makes for a fun accessory around your wrist. I like wearing in a half updo and in a low/high ponytail. When I went home in February, I won cool Auntie points when my niece saw my homemade amásání (grandmother) scarf scrunchies. She kept eyeing it until I told her she could have it. Since I DIY’ed scrunchies, I have a few extra available for purchase. If you are interested head to my Etsy shop, The Turquoise Hogan (RESTOCKED) here.
