Fancy Navajo Tips: 5 Things You Should Be Dry Cleaning

Have you ever washed a “Dry Clean Only” garment at home before? I know I am guilty of this and have ruined some of my favorite clothing items. As a result I have learned that some pieces really need to be dry cleaned. Not only will it save you time, but your favorite items will be properly taken care of at the cleaners.  Today in partnership with Delia’s Cleaners who recently rebranded to Tide Cleaners, I’ll be sharing 5 things you should be dry cleaning.

Make sure to read until the end for a special giveaway!!

Before we begin…

As a fancy fashionista, I have learned to always read the care label on my garments.

It’s an extra step that prevents me from accidentally putting a “Dry Clean Only” item into the regular wash. I’ve done this a few times and vowed to never do it again. So, one way to prevent this is to have a separate laundry basket set aside for “Dry Clean Only” items.  This ensures that they don’t creep into the regular wash. Over time I have gotten better at judging which items need to be dry cleaned and will be sharing 5 Things I Always Dry Clean. However, it’s always best to check the label if you are unsure or ask your local cleaners.

5 things you should be dry cleaning:

1. Wool

Most of my wool items include jackets, scarves, blankets, and sweaters. This has also been the culprit to many items I have tried washing on my own, which resulted in my favorite sweater shrinking three sizes too small.

2. Down Filled

This includes jackets, pillows, and bedding. It never dawned on me on how to wash these items. I have a down comforter that I use during the winter and I like to drop this off at the cleaners before storing it for the next winter.

3. Pleated Clothing

I never realized how many pleated items I have in my closet. From skirts to dresses and even pants.  I once washed out all of the pleats in my favorite skirt. Yeah, I am crying again as I type that out. Clothing items that have pleats or special folds, I would much rather send to the cleaners then to wash on my own. Not only will they come out clean, but all the folds will be nice and crisp.

4. Silk

Over the years I have accumulated a lot of silk items. From scarves to dresses, I just love the feel of silk. However, they are such a precious material that washing at home can be too harsh for these delicate items.

5. Special Occasion Dresses

This includes embellished, tulle, chiffon, and even fancy tuxedos. These items are most often sentimental and require special care. A lot of these items also include liners that if not taken care of properly will ruin your favorite dress.
